Another term for rolling walkers is “rollators,” and the simplest description for these would be a walker that has tires. This equipment combines a movable walking frame and wheels. So instead of lifting it, you just need to push it.

This idea of attaching wheels to walkers came about in Scandinavia some decades ago, and it proves the assertion that movement and wheels blend beautifully, as can be seen in skateboards, scooters, and other similar devices.

Bear in mind though, that the wheels of the rolling walkers do not run on machine or batteries; these walkers will not bring you anywhere by themselves. The user is the one controlling the rolling walkers’ direction and pace. It would be the user’s muscles which would power up the rolling walkers. Thus, these walkers would just serve as all of the following: stabilizer, supporter, and facilitator for more ease.

The many uses of rolling walkers

There are rolling walkers that offer padded seats, and this kind would allow the person to maintain his or her balance while enhancing the posture. When one gets tired, then he or she could just sit comfortably. One could also bring along some things, because there are rolling walkers that come with a basket.

Shopping tips for rolling walkers

How do you know if the rolling walkers would serve you well? First, you have to be sure that the size is suited to your height and weight. You must not bend too far when using the rolling walkers, and your wrists would have to be lined up with the handles’ top. Another factor to consider is that the height of the seat must be just right, as rolling walkers can also come with seats. When the knees are bent ninety degrees or less in a seating position, it means the walker’s seat is very low. The user would have great difficulties when he or she stands up while using it.

These rolling walkers are also made to maintain a particular weight, so check the unit’s weight in connection to your own body mass. Walkers are quite handy; they usually range from about ten to thirty pounds. Heavier walkers give more stability, but the lighter ones are preferable because they’re easier to transport. Different rolling walkers are sold in varying materials, designs, and styles.

The wheel size matters too

The size of the wheels is another factor to consider. These rollators usually have two to four wheels, and the bigger kind of wheels would permit a more efficient outdoor travelling. The smaller kind of wheels are best for individuals who would use the rolling walkers indoors most of the time.
