There are many types of incontinence products that will make living with a problem of incontinence bearable. Incontinence is the condition characterized by the involuntary discharge of urine or feces. The condition is often found in individuals with nerve and spinal cord damage and those suffering from mental problems.
Types of incontinence products
There are many types of incontinence products, which include incontinence or adult diapers, incontinence bed pads, and lotions and powders to prevent diaper rash and skin maceration.
Adult diapers
Adult diapers are perhaps the most common incontinence product out in the market today. The most common type of adult diapers are those that are disposable with elastic Velcro attachments for easy use and removal. Other types of adult diapers can be used like normal sanitary napkins and can be stuck on normal undergarments. The only difference is that this type of incontinence diaper is larger and wider than normal sanitary napkins, and are designed to prevent leaks from urinary, fecal, and stress incontinence.
Incontinence diapers may irritate the skin. This can be remedied by choosing another non-irritating incontinence diaper or using an incontinence lotion or cream. If you are prone to allergies, ask your doctor about brands of incontinence diapers that are hypoallergenic.
Incontinence pads
You can also buy incontinence pads that are designed to be placed on the surfaces of beds, wheelchairs, or chairs, and can be made with either plastic or rubber. Incontinence pads usually have tabs that are used to secure the sides of the pads properly on the surface where they are placed on.
Incontinence undergarments
There are also specific undergarments created for people with incontinence. Incontinence panties, briefs, shorts, and even incontinence pads are available from different manufacturers.
Washcloths and odor eliminators
Other types of incontinence products include disposable washcloths used in cleaning the perineal and odor eliminators, to get rid of any unpleasant odors.
Diaper creams and powders
Diaper creams and lotions, as well as powders are available and are used to provide a refreshing and cooling effect after the perineal area is cleaned. Most diaper creams prevent infection and skin maceration by providing a thin layer of cream between the skin and moisture.
Where to buy incontinence products
You have the option of buying incontinence products from medical supply stores, pharmacies, and online supply stores. You have a lot of options of incontinence products online but be sure to buy only those provided by reputable manufacturers.
