Incontinence is a problem that is affecting thousands of adults and seniors all over the world. However, there are many products out there that are making the lives of incontinent individuals bearable, and incontinence diapers are among them.

Incontinence diapers are diapers for adults that are constructed with a dual outer layer of water. Inside the pads is a layer of wood pulp and absorbent crystals, all contained in a water-repelling liner. Incontinence diapers are also fitted with elastic sides that help it fit snugly on the sides of the thighs to minimize the risk of leaks. Most incontinence diapers come with button or Velcro fasteners.

Incontinence pads may be used when the standard absorbent pads or sanitary napkins are unable to stop the flow or prevent leakage. Incontinence pads may be reusable or washable or they can be disposable. Some may resemble standards sanitary napkins, while others may look like larger versions of baby diapers. In some instances, incontinence diapers may need to be worn with waterproof cover-up pants to prevent any leaks of fluids and odors. These diapers also come in a wide variety of sizes.

How to Choose Incontinence Diapers

You need to consider a few factors when choosing an incontinence diaper. For one, you should consider the absorbent rate. This should be your main priority when looking for an incontinence diaper. The diaper should be reliable. There is nothing more embarrassing than a leak due to an incontinence pad that is not up to the task.

Another factor is price. After the absorbent rate this is usually the next factor that you should consider. For one, incontinence pads can become pretty expensive if you go for the disposable ones. Experts advice that if you want to cut down on the cost, you use a reusable incontinence pad under a disposable one. That way, if the fluid only leaks to the disposable pad you can use the washable incontinence pad again. This eliminates the need to replace multiples reusable pads in one day.

Another factor is the availability.  Disposable incontinence diapers are often available in most medical supply stores and pharmacies. This may not be true for reusable incontinence pads, most of which are only avail online. You may also find that if you are using incontinence pants, there are specific incontinence diapers that will fit snugly with those pants. Improper mixing of incontinence pants and diapers or pads usually results inleaks.
